Settings
Settings change how Deskie looks, sounds, chats, and behaves on the desktop. They sync with your Deskie account, so your choices follow you when you sign in on another device. Changes to a character's personality, voice, or model belong in the character editor instead.
Settings Access
- Web: sign in, then open Account or visit deskie.me/profile.
- Desktop: My settings is available from the character's right-click menu and the Deskie icon in the system tray or menu bar. Ctrl+P (Command+P on Mac) opens the same page.
- Mobile: the person icon (Account) opens the account page, where settings are available.
Appearance and Language
Language changes the language of Deskie's menus and new conversation replies. It also changes which characters, stories, pets, drafts, and recent chats appear in their lists. For example, selecting English shows the English content available to your account.
Content that disappears after a language change has not been deleted. Switching back makes content and recent chats from that language visible again.
Moe Points remain shared across all languages. When creating a character, the Voice tab can show voices from another language and assign one to the character, although each voice may differ in which languages it speaks well.
Theme supports Light, Dark, and Auto. Auto follows the device color scheme.
Conversation Behavior
AI model changes the AI that writes conversation replies, including support for DeepSeek, OpenAI, Doubao, Gemini and Grok. Without a saved choice, Chinese starts with DeepSeek, while English and other languages start with OpenAI. A chosen model stays selected until it is changed.
Writing style changes how characters describe actions, atmosphere, and sensory details around their dialogue. The available styles are Daily narrative, Gentle poetic, Literary imagery, Sensory details, and Hot-blooded chuunibyou. This preference does not change the character's saved personality.
On desktop, Proactive messages controls how often a companion may speak first. It can be disabled or set to occasional, balanced, or frequent. These choices express a preference rather than setting an exact schedule or notification.
Voice and Audio
Voice speed changes how quickly online voices speak, with Slow, Normal, and Fast options. This setting is unavailable while the local voice pack is selected.
Play voice controls spoken conversation replies independently from microphone input. Text chat remains available when playback is off.
On web and desktop, Voice volume changes the loudness of spoken replies. Background volume changes background music, sound effects, and video audio.
When more than one microphone is available on web or desktop, Microphone chooses which one Deskie listens to.
The free Deskie Local Voice Pack DLC on Steam adds local spoken replies on Windows. After Steam finishes installing it, open My settings > Character and turn on Use local voice pack. The pack generates speech on your computer, so spoken replies use no Moe Points; online voices can add Moe Point usage on top of the AI chat. The Voice guide covers its features and limitations.
Desktop Companion
Start automatically on boot launches Deskie when the computer starts. Always on top keeps the desktop character above other windows when its window opens.
Use hotkey for voice input starts voice input even while another application is active. The default is Alt+X on Windows and Option+X on Mac. Use hotkey for text input opens text input in the same way, with Alt+C or Option+C as the default. Both shortcuts can be changed and must include a modifier such as Ctrl, Alt, Shift, or Command.
Eyes follow mouse lets supported models follow the pointer. The effect depends on the model and does not move the desktop window.
Show message bubbles controls whether reply text appears beside the desktop character. Turning it off creates a more immersive voice-only experience, where the character speaks without showing the reply in a bubble.
Character size makes the desktop character larger or smaller without changing its position. You can also use mouse wheel over the character to adjust the size directly on the desktop.
Click-through lock lets the companion stay with you without getting in the way of a game or other work. Triple-click the character to lock it: mouse clicks pass through to the application underneath, so the character can remain on screen without interrupting what you are doing. Triple-click again to unlock it.
Voice and text hotkeys still start a conversation while the character is locked, so the companion remains available without taking over the mouse. Cancel click-through lock in the Deskie tray menu provides another way to restore interaction, and Reset character position returns the character to the center of the main display.
