Better Voice Chat, Favorite Voices & App Launching

Sometimes you'd rather say what's on your mind than type it all out. This update brings a brand-new voice recognition engine, adds a home for your favorite voices, and makes your desktop companion a little more useful between conversations.

🎙️ A Brand-New Voice Recognition Engine

We've switched to a brand-new voice recognition engine with better recognition accuracy and support for regional dialects. Speak the way you normally do, even in your local dialect. Tap the microphone and give it a try!

Previously, Deskie tried to detect when you'd finished a sentence, which could mistake a pause to think for the end of your message. Now, your words appear as you speak, and you explicitly send when you're ready: click Send or press Enter on desktop. Take your time, finish your thought, or press Escape to cancel.

Enable the desktop shortcuts in settings and try Alt+X to start talking to your character, even while you're using another app. Want to call them up but use the keyboard instead of your voice? Alt+C brings up their text input. On Mac, use Option+X or Option+C, and you can customize both shortcuts in settings.

Found a voice you want to come back to? You can now star your favorite voices in the character editor.

Build a shortlist while listening to samples, then come back to it when you're choosing a voice for your next character. No need to remember every name you liked.

🚀 Ask Your Character to Open an App

On Windows, your character can help you open installed apps right from the conversation. Ask for an app by name, or describe what you're looking for if you don't remember its exact name.

It's a small convenience that makes them feel more at home on your desktop: a chat, a quick request, and back to what you were doing.

🌐 Try a Chat Before Signing In

Sharing Deskie with a friend is a little easier now. They can visit deskie.me, pick a character, and try chatting before signing in.

It's a quick way to meet a character first, then sign in when they're ready to keep going.

We've also given everyday chat, voice playback, and character loading a little extra polish. Enjoy your time together!
